Last updated on 3/4/2016 by KAH.This data is a subset of the NRCS soils data (March 2007), as requested by Thurston County Community Planning and Economic Development Department. This data identifies soil types that support pocket gopher habitat and is intended for planning and conservation efforts. Text disclaimer for GopherSoils per Thurston County Community Planning and Economic Development Department: All soils shown on the Mazama pocket gopher soils map are to be used to determine areas that could potentially be suitable for Mazama pocket gophers and their habitat. The soils are derived from the final Federal Rule regarding the listing of the Mazama pocket gopher, which is on file with the Community Planning and Economic Development Department. This map is a screening tool of where Mazama pocket gophers or their habitat may be present. The map should not be used as a final indicator that gophers are present, or that gopher habitat exists on a specific property. Mazama pocket gophers can be found in other locations outside of the mapped areas. More information on Mazama pocket gophers can be obtained from the Thurston County Community Planning and Economic Development Department website by going to www.thurstonprairiehcp.org, or by going to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Mazama pocket gopher information page at http://www.fws.gov/wafwo/mpg.html.From the NRCS Soils Metadata: This data set is a digital soil survey and generally is the most detailed level of soil geographic data developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. The information was prepared by digitizing maps, by compiling information onto a planimetric correct base and digitizing, or by revising digitized maps using remotely sensed and other information. This data set consists of georeferenced digital map data and computerized attribute data. The map data are in a soil survey area extent format and include a detailed, field verified inventory of soils and nonsoil areas that normally occur in a repeatable pattern on the landscape and that can be cartographically shown at the scale mapped. A special soil features layer (point and line features) is optional. This layer displays the location of features too small to delineate at the mapping scale, but they are large enough and contrasting enough to significantly influence use and management. The soil map units are linked to attributes in the National Soil Information System relational database, which gives the proportionate extent of the component soils and their properties. |

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, should be acknowledged as the data source in products derived from these data. This data set is not designed for use as a primary regulatory tool in permitting or citing decisions, but may be used as a reference source. This is public information and may be interpreted by organizations, agencies, units of government, or others based on needs; however, they are responsible for the appropriate application. Federal, State, or local regulatory bodies are not to reassign to the Natural Resources Conservation Service any authority for the decisions that they make. The Natural Resources Conservation Service will not perform any evaluations of these maps for purposes related solely to State or local regulatory programs. Photographic or digital enlargement of these maps to scales greater than at which they were originally mapped can cause misinterpretation of the data. If enlarged, maps do not show the small areas of contrasting soils that could have been shown at a larger scale. The depicted soil boundaries, interpretations, and analysis derived from them do not eliminate the need for onsite sampling, testing, and detailed study of specific sites for intensive uses. Thus, these data and their interpretations are intended for planning purposes only. Digital data files are periodically updated. Files are dated, and users are responsible for obtaining the latest version of the data.By accessing any Data or Maps(“Data”) posted by Thurston County, you agree to these Terms of Use (“Terms”). These terms may be updated or modified by Thurston County at any time at its sole discretion. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not access the Data or download any material from it.1. When using the Data, a user has no authority to represent its products or services as though user were a Thurston County agent or office.10. RCW 42.56.070(9) prohibits the release of lists of individuals for commercial purposes. “Commercial purposes” means contacting or in some way personally affecting the individuals identified on the list with the purpose of facilitating one’s commercial activities. Specifically, the Data may not be used to generate sales lead information in the form of ASCII or other text-formatted list of category-specific business listing or property owners which (i) include complete mailing address for each and (ii) contain a substantial portion of such listing for a particular county, city, state, or zip code region.11. Data can be plotted or represented at various scales other than the original source of the data. Users should consider industry standard mapping practices, which specify that data utilized in a map or analysis, separately or in combination with other data, will be produced at the smallest scale common to all data sets. For example: if the zoning data scale is 1”=200’ and the city boundary data set is 1”=2000’, all Data should be used at a scale of 1”=2000’ or smaller.12.The invalidity of any term or provision of these Terms will not affect the validity of any other provision. Waiver by Thurston County of strict performances of any provision of these Terms will not be waiver of or prejudice Thurston County’s right to require strict performance of the same provision in the future or of any other provision of these Terms.13.
